Cox grad signs with Yankees organization

Tim LaVigne, a Cox graduate who pitched for several years for the Norfolk Tides, has been signed as a free agent by the New York Yankees.

LaVigne, 28, will likely be assigned to Double-A Norwich.

LaVigne had a 3-2 record with an ERA of 2.62 in 45 games as a middle reliever with the Tides last season.

FIELD HOCKEY

U.S. team goes 3-2

The U.S. national team, which trains in Virginia Beach, finished its five-game tour of The Netherlands with a 3-2 record after posting a 2-0 win over Dutch club Pinoke.

Next up is a four-nation tournament in Santiago, Chile, beginning May 12.

Norfolk State tennis player Petr Krakora has been accepted into The Washington Center for Internships and Academic Seminars for the summer. Krakora , who just completed his sophomore year, will participate in the International Affairs program at the Potomac Institute for Policy Studies.
